| Argon2 is the latest Wii modchip developed by the very popular Italian team Infectus. Argon2 is compatible with all drives including D2A, D1A, D2B, D2C, D2C2 and the up and coming D2E drive. Argon2 features an Actel A3P programmable microcontroller, an SPI interface, 50Mhz Oscillator for clock stability, a programmable JTAG interface and build quality that can be expected from a European based company.
Because of the Argon-2 design, you can be sure that it will be compatible with any other Wii introduced to the market. This is because of the Actel Microcontroller. Simple code updates including patches can be loaded onto the chip Actel with the SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface Bus) using the a DVD or CD. This will patch certain regions of the Actel chip. Should a full code review or completely new firmware be released for the Argon2 - you can then use the Injectus USB interface to reprogram the entire Actel microcontroller with the new code.
Full code re-writes are not possible for most other chips on the market. For example, when the D2C2 drive was first introduced to the market, many modchips had to be completely redesigned or sent back for reprogramming - in fact, Argon was the ONLY modchip that could be updated by the end-user. Some other manufacturers claim their chips can be reflashed, and this is true, but they no longer wish to release updates online due to cloners trying to steal their code. For the Infectus team, this is not a concern.
Also due to the clever and robust design of the Argon-2, it could arguably also be used for many other applications. Should the Infectus team wish, the Argon2 could be ported to become a PS2 Modchip, PSP Modchip, XBOX360 modchip and of course the sky is the limit SHOULD the infectus team wish to do such a thing. The case in point - the Argon2 is a very powerful microchip.
The Argon-2 can be installed in many different configurations for the Wii including 5 Wire for Generation 1 and 2 Wii's, 9-18 wire for Generation 3 and of course be used with a Wii-Clip which makes installation a cinche.
There are many more exciting and innovative products in the pipeline for team Infectus - so keep an eye out as they will certainly be here for a long time. |
